Ice Cave Exploration
About Alaska Ice Cave Exploration
Have you ever been into an ice cave before? Most haven’t… Let our experienced guides help you get to the best ice caves in Alaska , check out some of our ice cave exploration information to learn more. The top ice caves located in Alaska are the Mendenhall Ice Caves which is considered a treasure to many. Another ice cave in Alaska is the Spencer Glacier, in Chugach National Forest . If you are looking for the most accessible ice cave/ glacier area then perhaps speak to one of our guides about Matanuska Glacier Cave. Our favorite yet maybe not the most impressive from above is the Root & Kennicott Glaciers; due to the easy accessibility and stunning blue ice below once you explore farther down. There are surely many other ice caves in Alaska, some hidden and some unstable.

Larger Group Tours
If your group is over 8 people Alaska Back Country Guiding will not be able to accompany you on exploration ice cave adventures. Our policy is that groups of 8 or more can be lead to specific glacier areas and ice caves. A few very remote ice caves will be inaccessible to larger groups due to safety issues, transportation and sometimes tight spaces in the caves. Not to worry though, many of the ice caves that are available to the groups of larger capacity are still very stunning and the group can still explore, we just cannot go on a deeper exploration into the caves or to caves that require technical equipment. We hope you understand our policy, see below for smaller groups that wish to explore deeper and more remote ice caves.
Small Group Technical Exploring
Small groups of less than 8 people, yet recommended maximum 5 (unless we have more available guides during your trip), are open to booking a trip the more remote ice caves as well as undertaking technical exploration of the caves and glacier areas. Please speak with one of our specialists on the matter. There are specific requirements that you must possess before we will agree to take you into the caves. Such as certain levels of technical climbing, ice climbing, and technical experience and training with specific equipment. Each person must qualify before being accepted to go onto he trip. That is just how we keep our clients safe and insure that the trip can be accomplished. Those that are interested and experienced enough to attend are encouraged to book and start trip planning early as some of the remote caves require local airplane transport to get there.
